The ONLY mistake that can ruin everything after a match.

I don’t mean to brag but our FFL community is amazing! We have such great people attend our events, being single in 2025 is not that bad after all. However, I have noticed that some people still display some online dating behaviour that is frowned upon at FFL. Our events are meant to take you off of your phone, so there are some things that are a big NO at our events. I feel like it’s important to call out single people’s bad behaviour so that way you can identify it, address it, and put it behind you. Think about it as cognitive therapy for free.

Not too long ago we met with an FFL member to get an update on her dating life and if she was still interested in meeting new people. Through our conversation, I remembered that she had matched with someone right before the holidays and I inquired about it. What she told me next made me furious.

After they matched, he kept texting her, she wasn’t sure if he was being flirtatious but it didn’t work. Despite his odd texting behaviour, she decided to put it behind her and meet him for a date. After a lovely evening, the damage was done, he texted her afterwards but there was no second date.

Here is the thing, people who spend the money to attend an FFL event are ONLY interested in meeting people in real life. They DO NOT want to TEXT. Texting is a RED FLAG. After you match, you can send a text to say: hey, I’m so glad we matched, I had a great time at the event and I’m interested in getting to know you more, when are you available to meet for a drink or coffee? The other person can respond by reciprocating their contentment with their availability and setting a date. No more communication until you meet in person. If you have met someone in person, there is no reason for you to act as if you had met on a dating app. Adopting dating app behaviour is a BIG NO. I don’t care if you think I’m being unreasonable, it’s my bottom line and where I set boundaries. NO MORE TEXTING. Everyone needs to detox from their phones and texting. Whatever you want to text, save it for when you meet in person. Once you have established an ongoing connection and you are seeing each other regularly you can text. Before that you only communicate when you see each other.

I hope my little rant will encourage you not to text and appreciate this new dating scene that we have created in Montreal. It has proven to be fruitful for many and has helped develop a lot of confidence in those that never thought they would be able to walk up to strangers and strike up a conversation. To be clear we haven’t created anything new, we are just encouraging people to detox from their phones and meet in a human way, the only thing we’ve done is create a safe space for it.
